There were dramatic scenes in Ruddington this afternoon as a blaze swiftly spread out of control across several back gardens in our village.
Three crews from Nottinghamshire Fire & Rescue raced to the scene following the report of a fire on Fairham Close at 4.26pm – which quickly set fire to “multiple” sheds and outbuildings before firefighters could arrive to tackle the flames {Nottinghamshire Live photo above}.
At the height of the incident, the combination of fire tenders in attendance and the temporary traffic lights on Clifton Road caused peak time traffic chaos – as shown by Jerome Lucey’s photos below. Black smoke could also be seen billowing into the sky for miles around.
Thankfully the shed fires were brought under control quickly – and it’s not believed any serious damage was caused to people’s homes, nor that anyone has been hurt during the incident. However, some sheds and their contents were burned out and gardens around them badly scorched.
As fire crews damped down afterwards, investigations began as to both how the blaze started and why it managed to spread so quickly. We’ll bring you further updates here when we receive them.
